Celebrating Black History Month with Empowered at UiPath

Summarize:

Black History Month is a time to honor history, resilience, and achievement—and to celebrate the people who carry that legacy forward every day. In this blog post, we're spotlighting three members of Empowered at UiPath, our people unity council dedicated to amplifying and empowering Black employees and supporters. We're sharing the stories of Raheem, Tamara, and Chloey—three UiPathers whose journeys, perspectives, and cultural pride enrich the work we do every day.

What is a People Unity Council?

People Unity Councils (PUCs) at UiPath are employee-led communities that create space for connection, advocacy, and belonging. The Empowered at UiPath PUC was organized in 2019 to amplify and empower Black UiPath employees and supporters through an inclusive environment, networking opportunities, and events that promote cultural awareness.

"UiPath is working hard to build a more diverse and inclusive organization," said Raheem Hasan, Empowered Co-Lead. "And Empowered aims to play a strong role in that effort by leveraging our membership to engage with Black collegiate and professional organizations, as well as showcasing the opportunities for people of color in this emerging AI and automation space."

Like all UiPath PUCs, Empowered provides a sense of community and belonging for its members, all while advocating outward through networking events for the Black community, cultural awareness campaigns, partnerships with universities and educational organizations, and more.

What aspects of your cultural heritage or history are you most proud to celebrate, and how have they shaped your journey personally and professionally?

Raheem Hasan, Director, Global Partner Marketing: "For me, it starts with understanding our history. Not just the struggle, but the resilience and the significant contributions Black people have made across every part of society. Taking time, especially during Black History Month, to reflect on Black achievement across technology, music, business leadership, and culture has shaped my awareness of how I show up every day. It reminds me that I am standing on the shoulders of people who created opportunity where none existed, and that awareness influences how I lead, how I collaborate, and how I carry myself professionally. On a personal level, one of the things I am most proud of is passing that cultural pride and knowledge on to my family. I have been married to my soulmate, Stephanie, for 35 years, and together we have raised two wonderful children, Lydia, who is 33, and Caleb, who is 32. The importance of the family unit has always been central to who I am, and being able to share our history, values, and sense of purpose with my family is something I deeply value. That grounding shows up in how I lead, how I collaborate, and how I support others."

Tamara Tardy, Customer Success Manager, Commercial AMER: "I'm proud of the resilience, faith, and work ethic that have come from my journey as a woman of color, a former Division I athlete, a coach, and a leader. Those experiences shaped how I show up—grounded, prepared, and committed to excellence, even in spaces where I wasn't always expected to thrive."

Chloey Loman, Solutions Engineer, Public Sector: "For me, it's the strength, resilience, and resourcefulness. A lot of that shouldn't have ever been required in the ways it has been, but I'm still incredibly proud to be part of a community that makes good situations even better, and finds a way forward when things are hard."

Is there an artist, musician, writer, thinker, or historical figure who has inspired you, and why?

Raheem: "Muhammad Ali has always been a major inspiration for me. He represented far more than athletic greatness. He was a man of principles, confidence, intelligence, and conviction. He understood the power of communication and had an incredible ability to influence how people thought, both inside and outside of sports. What stood out to me most was his confidence and his willingness to stand firm in who he was, even when it came at a cost. He had swagger, but it was backed by discipline, intelligence, and purpose. That lesson has stayed with me. Speak with confidence, know your value, and do not let others define you."

Tamara: "Dawn Staley and Michelle Obama inspire me because they model excellence with integrity. They've shown what it looks like to rise above your circumstances, lead with confidence and grace, and create space for others along the way."

Chloey: "Megan Thee Stallion comes to mind right away. She's genuinely impressive, always pushing boundaries and showing up with intention. I'm drawn to the way she shares her life alongside her music, and how much discipline and craft she brings to everything she does. She's open and unapologetic about who she is, without trying to mold herself to anyone else's expectations. Some people get stuck on the delivery of her message, but miss the meaning behind it. And a side note: if you haven't read any of Bell Hooks' books, then you need to."

How has being part of Empowered at UiPath, or experiencing allyship at UiPath, supported you personally or professionally?

Raheem: "Empowered has been about connection, visibility, and support. There is real value in having a space where you can build relationships, find mentorship, and have open and honest conversations. Those connections matter, especially in environments where representation may be limited. Professionally, it has also created opportunities to showcase the incredible talent within our Black UiPather community. Our culture, our perspectives, and our contributions deserve to be seen and celebrated. Allyship at UiPath has shown up through leaders who listen and colleagues who advocate, and that support creates room for growth, confidence, and impact. At its core, Empowered helps build a strong support structure that allows people to thrive."

Tamara: "Empowered and allyship at UiPath have made it easier to lead authentically. Knowing I'm supported has given me confidence to use my voice, grow professionally, and show up fully as myself."

Chloey: "What really stands out to me is the community and how supportive it is. With so much happening in the world, it helps to have a space where you can reset, talk things through, and feel grounded again. It's also been great connecting with people from so many different parts of the company. I've learned more than I would have on my own, and I know I have more folks I can turn to when I need help."

Any advice you would share with someone navigating their identity at work?

Raheem: "Stay true to yourself. Speak with confidence and act with confidence. You were hired for who you are and what you bring to the table. Seek out mentors who can provide perspective, guidance, and honest feedback, and do not hesitate to advocate for yourself. You do not have to compromise your identity to succeed. Authenticity, preparation, and professionalism go a long way. Know your value, do the work, and use your voice. It matters."

Tamara: "Don't shrink to fit the room. Your identity is part of your strength. Find your people, trust your voice, and remember—you earned your seat at the table."

Chloey: "I think it will forever be an evolving thing. For me personally, my work identity hasn't been as impacted by being half Black, mostly because I'm often perceived as racially ambiguous. That perspective comes with its own responsibility. I try to show up for the people around me and speak up when others don't feel safe doing so, because the reality is, how things are received can look different depending on who's speaking. If there's one thing I'd share, it's this: focus on doing your work well, and finding your people. Having a community around you matters. They can offer support, perspective, and backup when you need it, especially while you're figuring out who feels safe and who you can trust."

We're grateful to Raheem, Tamara, and Chloey for sharing their journeys and reflections. Their stories remind us of the different paths that shape our UiPathers and the strength that comes from shared values and authentic voices. Stay tuned as we continue to highlight more stories from our people unity councils—stories that celebrate identity, resilience, and the power of community.
