Intern insights: my life as an Agentic Developer Intern at UiPath

Meet Kim Sour, a UiPath intern whose drive to build pulled him into the world of AI agentic automation. During his internship, he moved from mastering the UiPath Platform™ to tackling uncharted challenges. In this post, he shares how UiPath turned that hands-on ambition into a real AI engineering experience for him.

What drew you to the Agentic Developer Intern role at UiPath? 

Agentic Developer (Intern) is a role focused on bringing together next-gen technologies to build practical, real-world solutions: AI agents, automations, people, real systems. That intersection is exactly what I wanted to experience. I applied because I wanted to build, not just learn.

I didn’t join UiPath by accident, the role pulled me in.

How would you describe your interview experience?

Interview day? Honestly, intense. It was my first real shot at a global tech company, and I knew I wasn’t fully ready. But that moment mattered. It showed me the gap between where I was and where I could be—my interviewer (and later my manager) Tony Nudd, Director for Agentic Automation Innovation in Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) region, challenged me with questions on the current state of AI, AI agents, and large language models (LLMs). To be honest, I could not answer all the questions, and thought I had failed, but as Tony told me later, my enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge and hands-on AI agent building got me through.

What did your early learning journey at UiPath look like, and what surprised you most about getting started?

Early on, I used the UiPath Platform™ to move beyond theory and start building real things:

• UiPath Studio: on designing automation workflows from scratch 

• UiPath Orchestrator: on deploying, scaling, and managing bots like production systems 

• UiPath Action Center: on blending person decisions with automation (real-world AI loops)

I was given access to UiPath Academy where I went through multiple learning paths such as: building my first agent with UiPath Studio Web, learning how to deploy end-to-end business processes in UiPath Maestro by using agents and human-in-the-loop automations, and learning how to install, upgrade, and troubleshoot UiPath Studio and Robot. But this went beyond simply learning a tool. It was about developing a systems mindset—understanding logic, flow, and how processes unfold.

How did your work evolve once you started exploring AI at UiPath?

Everything leveled up when AI entered the picture. I started working with more advanced, AI-driven parts. I combined automation with modern AI tools and architecture. This is where UiPath really stood out: it had evolved beyond traditional RPA into AI-powered agentic automation.

What helped you push through the toughest moments of doubt?

Before diving into the deep end, I worked through structured tasks (shoutout to my manager Tony), building confidence step by step. There definitely were moments of doubt—“Am I doing this right?”, “Am I missing something obvious?” But the environment made the difference: space to experiment, support when stuck, freedom to figure things out, no micro-managing, failure was OK; it meant we now knew what didn't work and could try something different. That working environment is rare. Eventually, things started clicking. The last part was huge—seeing automation + AI actually working together in a live set-up. Not theory, not tutorials, but real AI integration and real systems.

What changed for you?

This internship changed the way I think—how I break down complex systems, deal with uncertainty, learn quickly in unfamiliar situations, and build with AI rather than simply use it.

What would you say to someone early in their career considering a role at UiPath?

If you’re early in your career and want to work on AI, that actually does things, not just models sitting in notebooks—this is the space. As an intern at UiPath, you’re working with agentic automation/ orchestration, AI-powered workflows, human-in-the-loop systems, and real enterprise-scale problems. You’re working with AI in real production scenarios, not only experimenting with it. This was just the start. Next it’s about going deeper—building more advanced AI-driven automations, exploring new architectures, and pushing what these systems can actually do.
