UiPath Insights Webinar: Measure the Impact of Your Automation Strategy

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I learn more about how to get started with RPA analytics?

A: Check out the RPA Reporting and Analytics blog series, starting with an Introduction to Logging!

Q: Is UiPath Insights only for RPA Center of Excellence users?

A: No, Insights is a powerful tool for users across the entire organization – from enabling business process owners to define, track, measure and share process KPIs to increasing operational visibility across the RPA COE.

Q: Will UiPath Insights be available in the cloud?

A: At launch, Insights will only be available to customers with on-premises deployments.

Q: Will UiPath Insights be available as part of the Community Edition?

A: Insights will not be available as part of the Community Edition.

Q: Will Insights be included in UiPath Orchestrator 2019.10?

A: Insights will be available in the 2019.10 LTS update.

Q: Do users of Insights also need to be users of Orchestrator?

A: Yes, users of Insights must also be users of Orchestrator.

Q: Can Insights and Orchestrator be installed on the same server?

A: No, Insights should be installed on a separate server.

Q: What data does Insights ingest?

A: Insights utilizes data that is stored in the Orchestrator SQL database, and data from logs and queues.

Q: Where does Insights store data?

A: Insights stores data in a separate SQL columnar database.

Q: If you are not using queues but are using logs, can Insights be utilized?

A: Yes, even without custom data Insights will still provide standard operational data. If you would like to include custom data without using queues, you can use the add log fields activity to define specific fields within the logs.

Q: Can dashboard tables be exported as CSV?

A: Most of the widgets found within the Insights dashboards can be exported to CSV.

Q: Where is customer data stored when using Insights?

A: Insights is an on-premises product; customer data will remain on-premise.

Q: If I have an existing analytics environment, can I continue to use it?

A: Insights will not impact your existing analytics environments, and can be used side-by-side

Q: Are Kibana or Elasticsearch required to utilize Insights?

A: While not required, they can be used in tandem with Insights.

Q: Can you customize ROI calculations?

A: The process baseline widget has completely customizable formats, and you can customize any of the formulas within the dashboard.

Q: What dashboards will come out of the box?

A: Insights comes with curated dashboards for your Robots, Queues, Processes and ROI calculations.

Q: Does Insights provide real-time analysis?

A: Insights is not real-time as it is centered on giving users the ability to view trends over time, which it does by storing historical data. For real-time troubleshooting, it's best to rely on the Monitoring tab within Orchestrator.

Q: Is it possible to schedule email reports?

A: Yes, it is possible to schedule email reports.

Q: Can I create custom business dashboards?

A: Yes, you can create custom business dashboards, if the data is in the logs and/or queues.

Q: Is it possible to drill down from the dashboard to a queue item?

A: Yes, it is possible to drill down through the widgets.

Q: I’m keen to know more about the Document Processing Framework, especially around PDF files.

A: Sure! Find what you need in our online documentation for UiPath.PDF.Activities and UiPath.DocumentProcessing.

Q: Is Computer Vision able to track handwritten text present in a document? Or does this still require Abby Flexicapture?

A: UiPath Computer Vision focuses on reading UI (User Interface) elements on the screen with AI techniques. We have several Cognitive services integrated with the UiPath Platform, including Microsoft Azure Computer Vision and Google Cloud Vision, which can recognize handwritten text.

Q: Is Computer Vision recording related to the recent package which has the privacy statement that screenshots may be sent to UiPath?

A: Yes. There are, however, two deployment modes for this feature. If you access it through our Cloud, the screenshots are sent to UiPath. But you can also deploy the model on-premises or in your own Cloud. In that case, nothing gets sent to UiPath.

Q: Does your AI Computer Vision require a license? Is Computer Vision available in the community version? The community edition currently sends images to the UiPath server. Will a robot do that after the release of the enterprise version?

A: Computer Vision is available in two ways today. First, there is a Cloud-based option available for free to our community and enterprise users. This is the default method configured in the activity. Second, the model is available for on-premises use by enterprise customers. In the case of the Cloud option, images are sent to the UiPath Cloud for processing, but UiPath does not retain any of the processed images. For the on-premises option, images are not sent to UiPath at all.

Q: With the Computer Vision activities, can you anchor to a variable string? I have a grid of text boxes with various row/column headers and would rather use a simple loop to go through the anchors to find the text box I need to enter data into.

A: Yes, you can do that.

Q: What is the maximum duration for Orchestrator Execution Snapshot recordings before an unattended robot encounters an error?

A: Two minutes.

Q: Is there any capability for the integration with ServiceNow API in which we must pass credentials?

A: We are actively exploring the integration with ServiceNow and will have more to share in the future.

Q: Regarding monitoring: is that information available via an API query? Is there any historical data available?

A: The information to query the data available in monitoring is not available via API. Monitoring data happens over 24 hours. For longer durations in monitoring, you can ingest the logs via elastic-search to compute utilization/uptimes.

Q: Can I create a Global Variable in my Main.xaml and access it via sub-workflows without using Arguments?

A: Global variables are usually considered a bad practice and are not supported.

Q: How is UiPath related to RPA and classic Artificial Intelligence areas (as i.e. neural networks, rules-based systems, expert systems, knowledge-based systems and so on)?

A: Here’s our own vision for AI.

Q: How can I get involved in the Fast Track 2019 program?

A: The 2019 Fast Track is released and available for download. If you wish to participate in future platform testing, you can join the insider program.
