Meet John Smith, Senior Sales Director for UKI Commercial at UiPath. Throughout his career, John’s been after more than just a title—he has looked for impact. He now leads a high-performing team, builds strong customer relationships, and still rolls up his sleeves to close deals and coach rising sales stars. In this blog, he shares his career journey, what makes UiPath culture special, and why he’s excited about the future of agentic automation.

Can you tell us more about yourself?

"I'm John, Senior Sales Director for the UKI commercial business at UiPath. I’ve been with the company for nearly six and a half years, starting as an Account Executive. Over that time, I’ve had the privilege of bringing in 30 to 40 new customers and managing some of our biggest UK accounts—Vodafone, Tesco, Marks & Spencer, and Asda. Before UiPath, I worked at large companies like Oracle and Siemens, selling a variety of technologies—from enterprise resource planning to human capital management and product lifecycle management—across multiple industries. That experience has been really valuable in my current role."

What made you want to join UiPath?

"In 2018, I was ready for a change from Oracle. I wanted to be in a more dynamic environment where I could make a real difference. When I looked into RPA, UiPath stood out. It was growing fast, leading the market, and working with truly disruptive technology. That combination was incredibly appealing."

How has your role evolved since joining?

"I've had quite a journey at UiPath. I started out as an Account Executive, then moved into a Strategic and Global Account Manager role, looking after one of our largest UK customers. As a Senior Sales Director, I lead a team of motivated sales people. It’s been incredibly rewarding to move into leadership and be able to mentor and support others."

What’s been the most rewarding part of your journey at UiPath?

"Seeing the impact—on both customers and the company. When I joined, we were a $200 million business. Now we’re around $1.5–1.6 billion. Knowing the work we do every day plays a part in that growth and delivers real value to our customers is hugely satisfying."

How do you manage work-life balance in a busy environment?

"Balance is key, and UiPath supports that. I start my day early with a gym session before coming to the office. The company's rules are flexible, so I can manage my time well between work and family. I strongly believe in having hobbies and interests outside of work to stay healthy. UiPath culture encourages this balance, which I think is essential for long-term success and well-being."

What is your favorite benefit or perk at UiPath?

"One of the standout benefits for me has been our paternity leave policy. As a father of two, I was able to take significant time off when my children were born. Additionally, the flexibility in our working arrangements, whether it's working from home or the office, has been fantastic. Our health benefits have also been very useful, not just for me but for my family as well."

What excites you about the future of our role or team at UiPath?

"What really excites me is the quality and potential of our technology. UiPath’s products are the best I’ve ever had the opportunity to sell. Our Product team always makes solutions that are the best and work well for our customers. As we've evolved from an RPA company to an AI company and now an agentic company, we're at the forefront of technological shifts. Our agentic automation platform has many features, including UiPath Maestro™ and UiPath Test Cloud. This makes us the best in the industry for its wide range of capabilities. The future looks incredibly promising as we continue to define the market and push the boundaries of what's possible in automation. If we execute well now, the world's our oyster."

What advice would you give to someone considering a role in Sales at UiPath?

"I'd say the most important thing is cultural fit. We look for people who are motivated, driven, and have a competitive nature, but in a positive way. We want team players who can collaborate effectively. My advice would be to show your personality, share what motivates and inspires you, and demonstrate how you align with UiPath values of being bold, immersive, fast, and humble."
