Today, we announced that Madrona Venture Group has made an investment in UiPath. Coming into the Series C financing round announced in September of this year, Madrona will be a great partner as UiPath continues to be on the forefront of using AI to take Robotic Process Automation to a new level. UiPath is looking to significantly scale up their R&D presence in Bellevue, WA given the vast amount of cloud and AI talent available in the greater Seattle region.
Together, Madrona Managing Director and UiPath board member, S. Somasegar (Soma) who has multiples decades of development and operating experience at Microsoft, and the broader Madrona team will work closely with the UiPath leadership team as UiPath grows the Bellevue office and focuses on the AI aspects of the company’s Automation First strategy.
Param Kahlon, Chief Product Officer UiPath commented:
As we build out our Automation First strategy with a focus on applying AI to enhance employee productivity, the AI expertise in the greater Seattle region and at Madrona will be crucial to automating work processes. This region is clearly a leader in advanced AI expertise and we are excited to be here building out a product and R&D focused team.
Soma is a managing director at Madrona Venture Group. Prior to Madrona, Soma led the Developer Division at Microsoft and championed global distributed R&D initiatives at Microsoft including development centers in China, Israel and India. As Corporate Vice President of the Developer Division, Soma oversaw Microsoft’s developer tools and technologies, including the Visual Studio line of products and services and the .NET Framework. Madrona was one of the first VCs to invest in AI related technologies including Turi (acquired by Apple and the base of the Seattle Apple office), Kitt.ai (acquired by Baidu) and current portfolio companies, Xnor.ai, Amperity, AnswerIQ, MtyAI, Suplari and others.
AI will transform many aspects of businesses. We are already seeing this across different verticals and industries in a variety of use cases. Robotic Process Automation, an area we have been interested in for over a year, combined with AI has the opportunity to significantly change how work is done and increase by orders of magnitude employee productivity and satisfaction,” said Somasegar.
