UiPath Business Automation Platform 2022.10 release

For developers, the foray into the world of automation usually begins with the first step: the development of a process, or an app, to take over your repetitive work. With the 2022.10 release of the UiPath Business Automation Platform we bring a ton of new improvements to the products and solutions that help you build better, faster, and more reliable automations.

Get a fast start from any platform with Studio Web

We have always talked about expanding the world of automation to include more people with a broader spectrum of skills, more processes, and departments with different needs. And the Studio family of products has been at the forefront of innovation in addressing these market needs.

Later this year, we are launching a new member of the family: UiPath Studio Web. Studio Web is a web-based automation canvas, enabling users to build and test cross-platform automations across online business apps and services.

With no IT dependencies, no installation, and a frictionless start, Studio Web is the recommended tool for getting started with automation. Studio Web will be continually updated in our ongoing release cycles. And if your plans include any user interface (UI) elements or complex automations, our full project compatibility allows you to easily switch to StudioX or Studio and continue the development in the desktop version.

Studio Web was designed to empower developers to bring projects quickly to fruition. It includes Live Video Streaming for Unattended and Automation Cloud Robots so developers can easily debug any issues. This new feature enables predictable and verifiable development and production troubleshooting.

Studio Web is already in our Community editions and will become available within the next few weeks for our enterprise customers.

A new license to help you get started—Automation Express

Available later this year, UiPath Automation Express lets everyone start taking advantage of UiPath automation to solve their personal automation needs—for free! Cloud-based and designed for individual users, Automation Express includes editions of powerful UiPath products and services: Assistant, Studio Web, StudioX, Integration Service, and even some serverless robot time. It’s all designed to make it easy to write and run your own automations so you can delegate your tedious tasks to robots.

Anyone will be able to get and use Automation Express through the free plan on uipath.com. And Automation Express can be used commercially. Upgrading from the free plan to a pro plan on the web for more capabilities will be easy. Or upgrade to one of the UiPath enterprise plans by contacting sales.

For enterprise customers that centrally manage automation, there are additional benefits. Some Automation Express licenses are included at no additional cost in Automation Cloud™ enterprise plans. Users can be invited to use Automation Express centrally by the center of excellence (CoE) and are visible as a group in the organization’s portal.

Automation Express users can be upgraded by the CoE to citizen developers at any time for more capabilities. These include adding support for policy-based management via Automation Ops, and enabling the user’s attended robot to receive centrally served automations.

Integration Service adds a powerful tool to expand the connector catalog

UiPath Integration Service is already known for its strong catalog of best-in-class, prebuilt connectors.

Connector Builder for Integration Service, now in public preview, is a new capability that empowers users to build their own API-based integrations when a required automation connector is not already available in Integration Service. And then add them to the connector catalog for re-use.

Using low-code/no-code tools, customized connectors can be quickly created. The accelerated approach enables users to import common API formats including Swagger, YAML, and Postman collections.

Configure, execute, and debug your API resources with Connector Builder

With Connector Builder, developers can easily configure, and test RESTful APIs. And then publish them as a fully supported, Integration Service connector.

New connectors are published in the Integration Service Connector Catalog, providing immediate access to third-party applications across the UiPath Business Automation Platform.

New prebuilt integrations

UiPath continues to release new prebuilt, curated connectors monthly. Each one is available within the Integration Service Connector Catalog and can be leveraged across the UiPath Business Automation Platform.

New curated connectors are available for Adobe PDF Services, Box Sign, Campaign Monitor, Constant Contact, GitHub, Gmail, Snowflake, Zendesk—and the new Add-in for Workday.

New enhancements for Event Triggers

Triggers play an essential role in both integration and automation.

Integration Service provides server-side triggers that empower robots to work automatically across dozens of applications based on events in connected systems. Server-side events include data updates, added data, deletions—and any number of operational, business autonomation drivers. For example, a workflow could be kicked off by a new opportunity updated in Salesforce, a transaction posted in SAP, or simply, the receipt of an email.

Enriched developer experience

Released in tandem with Studio Web, the trigger developer experience is enhanced by added support for the testing, simulating, and debugging of event triggers. This is in addition to the recently released trigger data filtering, which enables triggers to automatically take the next step within a workflow based on specific data changes and user conditions—such as generating emails based on opportunity changes in Salesforce.

A fresh update for Studio

Just because we have a new member in the family with Studio Web, doesn’t mean that we forgot about our flagship product for developers: UiPath Studio.

Updates in the 2022.10 streamline the experience of getting started with automation (zero-to-wow factor in minutes). UiPath Marketplace templates in StudioX encourage new users to learn by doing and allows users to learn the UiPath Platform gradually. Templates can also be a good starting point for more complex projects.

Collaboration is a key ingredient in any productivity tool and platform today. Users can now easily share their automations with their coworkers and their teams, in a safe, policy governed environment. Cross-platform projects saved in Automation Cloud can now be edited in any version of Studio.

To make the experience of switching between Studio versions more consistent, we now provide the same sequence designer for Studio and StudioX, making it easier than ever to switch between the two. This ability to switch between products allows teams to work on a project together. Or users to switch between Studio products without the added learning curve.

Shared, reusable cross-platform components (libraries) built with Studio are now exposed across all Studio versions. This means projects built with Studio Web are—by default—marked as cross platform and can be edited and run from any version of Studio (Studio Web, StudioX, or Studio). Together with Assistant for Mac opens the UiPath Platform to a variety of users who were unable to take advantage of its benefits up until today.

Share your automations in all new ways with UiPath Apps

Have you ever wanted your customers, suppliers, or partners to be able to benefit from the same automations you use internally?

Good news—UiPath Apps is going B2C. UiPath Apps offers automation developers the easiest way to develop user-friendly interfaces for their automations. With the introduction of public-facing functionality, your company’s critical stakeholders (both inside and outside of the enterprise) can access the automations and apps that you choose.

We demoed the power of this approach on stage at UiPath FORWARD 5, where we reimagined an onboarding experience built on UiPath Apps.

Rather than having new employees traverse dozens of different applications to procure a laptop, figure out which Slack channels to join, and set up 1:1s, UiPath Apps centralizes it all in one friendly screen.

2022.10 employee onboarding in the fully automated enterprise

Public-facing functionality will be available soon. Check out the full employee onboarding demo from FORWARD 5 in the meantime.

Spread the power of automation with your employees

We’re also doubling down on ways you can share the power of automation within your company. Powered by UiPath Apps, Automation Launchpad is generally available as of 2022.10. Automation Launchpad is a guided one-stop shop for your business users to navigate to what they need, when they need it. Think of it as a GPS for their automation journey. Best of all, your users stay compliant with your IT team’s governance requirements.

Lastly, you can now unite your UI and API-based automations within UiPath Apps. As UiPath Integration Service and Apps come together (public preview), you can build more complex apps. By referencing Integration Service connections in your apps, you can use APIs for common enterprise applications like Microsoft Outlook and Jira. And where APIs don’t exist, you can create your own with the Connector Builder.

Progressing toward efficient and intelligent automated testing

UiPath capabilities for testing have advanced to support all aspects of a modern digital testing team. For this release, improvements were added to support test governance requirements, including:

  • New integration and migration services

  • Automatic test generation for robotic process automation (RPA) workflows was finalized

  • More SAP applications and objects are now supported for both automation and testing

UiPath Test Manager has been further enhanced so users can quickly find what they need with improved search and filtering, and export test results for custom analysis. In addition, take advantage of new role-based permissions with predefined roles such as Test Manager, Test Designer, and Manual Tester.

Testing is part of a holistic software delivery process. Ensuring testing is seamlessly integrated into an organization's delivery toolchain is critical in governing delivery artifacts. It also enables effective collaboration between testing, IT, and development. UiPath is partnering with Planview Tasktop to provide very customer with complementary connectors to over 50 application lifecycle management (ALM) and testing tools.

With this 2022.10 release, RPA teams can now take advantage of zero-touch RPA testing. The capability was developed in partnership with the University of Bucharest. Within Studio, RPA developers can automatically generate test cases, and test data and verifications to ensure their workflow logic is tested before publishing to UiPath Orchestrator.

Customers that are automating and testing their SAP ecosystem can now automate more. UiPath now supports all three variations of Fiori, can identify enhanced web elements in WebGUI, and enables extended support for SuccessFactors, including Global Busy Indicator and Searchable Combo boxes.

Finally, we’ve delivered many improvements to Automation Cloud™:

  • The introduction of zero-infrastructure Cloud Test Robots

  • The ability to orchestrate test environment activities with IT automation in Studio Web

  • Centralized source control with GitHub

Introducing Professional Services for Marketplace

Partners can use UiPath Marketplace Professional Services listings to sell their own services as standalone products.
